The bug
It seats you with five strangers. If the night goes well you swap numbers in the parking lot, start a group chat, and the app has done its job — right up until it deals you five new strangers next month and you begin again.

How it works
Ten questions, not a personality exam. Where you live, whether you drink, how loud you like a room, and what you’d genuinely leave the house for.
A table of six, mixed on purpose — enough in common to have something to say, enough difference that it’s a group and not a mirror.
Privately, the morning after. No public ratings. Nobody swipes on anybody.
When enough of the table wants a second round, that’s your group — and your next four nights are already on the calendar.
People drift; new seats open. Leave whenever and get re-matched. No hard feelings, no penalty.
By night five, nobody calls it an app anymore.
Why this exists
We met at a dinner app. It worked — once. Then it dealt us a new table of strangers, and another, and another.
So we did the sorting ourselves. Went to the dinners, worked out which two or three people were worth keeping, and stitched them into a group chat by hand. It took the better part of a year.
That group chat is where this came from. Regulars is the argument that it shouldn’t take a year.
The velvet rope
Free seats no-show 40–60% of the time. Paid seats show up. A seat that costs something is a seat somebody chose — and that’s the only honest way to promise you a full table.
